4-(2-Methylpropyl)piperidine-2,6-dione can be used to synthesize gabapentin via Hofmann-type rearrangement. Gabapentin (G117250) is an amino acid structurally related to?γ-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) that can cross the blood brain barrier. Gabapentin is used as an anticonvulsant.
