Description and Uses

3,3'-Dihexyloxacarbocyanine is a cell-permeable green fluorescent dye that is used as a membrane potential probe. At high concentrations, 3,3'-Dihexyloxacarbocyanine accumulates in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and has been used to visualize ER in moss, yeast, and muscle cells. At low concentrations, it accumulates in mitochondria and has been used to assess mitochondrial dislocations, fusion, and fission in living cells, as well as to visualize cellular apoptosis.

Endoplasmic Reticulum-Tracker dye is a cell-permeant, live-cell stain that is highly selective for the ER. This dye rarely stain mitochondria, unlike the conventional ER stain DiOC6(3) and staining at low concentrations does not appear to be toxic to cell
