Description and Uses
N-Acetyl-D-mannosamine is used as a substrate to identify, distinguish and characterise enzymes; it is also an effective glycan modulator that significantly reduces the proportion of high-mannose glycans in antibodies by promoting glycan maturation.
N-Acetyl-D-mannosamine(ManNAc) is primarily used in protein expression—particularly in the production of recombinant proteins such as therapeutic antibodies—to precisely regulate the glycosylation quality of the product, which is crucial for optimising the safety and efficacy of the drug. N-Acetyl-D-mannosamine (ManNAc) is a direct precursor of sialic acid (Neu5Ac) and can be converted into Neu5Ac via enzymatic reactions, playing a vital role in the glycan chains on the cell surface. As an effective glycan modifier, it significantly reduces the proportion of high-mannose-type glycans in antibodies by promoting glycan maturation.
