Description and Uses
Pregnenolone is a neurosteroid that serves as the precursor to all other neurosteroids found in the brain. Pregnenolone (PREG) is synthesized from cholesterol by the cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme (P450scc) and then is metabolized into different neuroactive steroids. It has various effects on brain function, including modulation of myelination, neuroinflammation, neurotransmission, and neuroplasticity. Pregnenolone demonstrates promise in the treatment of schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder, Alzheimer's desease, bipolar disorder.
Pregnenolone-d4, is the labeled analogue of the Pregnenolone (P712200), which is a steroid hormone involved in the steroidogenesis of progesterone, mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, androgens, and estrogens.
