Description and Uses
Chlorfluazuron is an insecticide used to control chewing pests. It has a low aqueous solubility, is not highly volatile and, based on its physico-chemical properties it would not normally be expected to leach to groundwater. It is moderately persistent in soil systems and may persist in water under certain conditions. It has a low mammalian oral toxicity and an eye irritant. Ecotoxicological data is scant but chlorfluazuron is not highly toxic to birds or fish but is much more toxic to aquatic invertebrates.
Chlorfluazuron is used for the control of Heliothis, Spodoptera, Bemisia tabaci and other chewing insects on cotton, and Plutella and Thrips on vegetables. It is also used on fruit, potatoes, ornamentals and tea.
